1997 White Rock Vineyards Claret, Napa Valley

I received this wine as a gift some time ago. I don't know much of the history or the story of this Napa Valley producer. This is the first time I've tasted this producer's wine.

The wine is obviously a blend of Bordeaux varietals and on the nose exhibits dark fruit, blackberry and subtle spicy notes. On the palate the wine has good acidity and balance but lacks depth and structure I would expect from a 1997 wine with good pedigree. Though the mouth feel is a bit lighter than many of the more well known blends, it has nice black cherry if not Dr. Pepper like flavors. It finishes abrubtly but with a nice flavor profile. 89 points.
